Make a square base
Open image at full size ↗Crease both diagonals and both midlines. Push the sides inward and flatten into a layered square.
Narrow the layers
Open image at full size ↗Fold the two lower edges to the center on the front and back. Unfold them and tuck the side folds inward along their creases.
Cut an octagon
Open image at full size ↗Turn the layers sideways. Cut off the upper excess along the horizontal guide. Open the paper into an octagon.
Mark the inner ring
Open image at full size ↗Bring an outer point to the center line and press only the indicated crease. Repeat around the octagon.
Fold opposite points together and mark the next short crease. Repeat to complete the inner ring of folds.
Gather the pleats
Open image at full size ↗Raise the outer sections along the creases, gradually gathering them around the center. Turn the raised rim sideways to work on one section.
Lay the petals in a spiral
Open image at full size ↗Lift one edge and fold point to point along the dotted guide. Repeat around every edge so the layers overlap in the same direction. Turn the flower over.
Tuck the outer corners
Open image at full size ↗Fold the indicated corner in half and unfold. Fold a small triangle to the new crease, then tuck it between the layers. Repeat around the rim.
Separate the petal tips
